Introduced in 1983 and only modestly revised over the years, the Land Rover Defender has rightly earned a place as one of the most influential vehicles of the 21st century. Able to trace its lineage back to the very first post-war Land Rover, the Defender might not be the last word in civility but by heck it is tough.
With its permanent four-wheel-drive system, lockable centre differential, live axles at both ends, and long-travel coil suspension, the Defender is as good off the beaten track as it is appalling on it. But no-one cares, because it has levers sprouting out of the floor, a big, bluff front, and only gets better with age; like a certain type of man, the Defender doesn’t age, it matures, and any hard-won patina it gains simply adds to the legend.
It finally died in 2016, killed by the man, or euro-sanctioned emissions regulations, if you like your conspiracy theories Brexit-shaped. In either case, we miss the old girl, which is why we’re so pleased to be able to offer this hugely rare and desirable example of the breed.
This is a very rare and eye catching XS Utility in Fuji white with the beautiful Santorini Black pack. Originally highly specified from the factory, including:
Heated half leather Recaro front seats with Land Rover embossed headrests, heated windscreen, black leather second row seats, full length front to rear grey alcantara headlining, Alpine sound system with subwoofer, Bluetooth Audio and Telephone integration, black chequer plate to sills, front wing tops and front bumper, black defender lettering on the bonnet and black side steps. Standard XS features include electric front windows, remote central locking and alarm and air conditioning. An unused adjustable towbar is also available.
This well cared for example has been given some very special treatment, the exterior has been updated with Wipac LED side lights and indicators, the headlights are genuine Land Rover full LED units as fitted to the 70th Anniversary Edition, brand new Overfinch gloss black wheels fitted with the flagship BF Goodrich KO2 All Terrain tyre. A chunky KBX grill and headlight surrounds in Santorini black complete the look of this special Defender.
2015 was the final year of production making this is one of the newest Defenders you can buy, and although the chassis and underside was in superb condition, as all Defender enthusiasts know, they don’t stay this way. To help this Defender last a lifetime, a five stage Dinitrol® certified process has been applied. The underside is now fully protected from the elements and looks better than when it left the factory. See our video on the website for a complete view of the underside.
The interior, as far as Defenders go is luxurious. The heated Recaro seats are supportive and comfortable, the black leather cubby box XL with white stitch detail is trimmed to match the seats and is taller than standard to rest your left arm. A 15” black aluminium steering wheel in black leather with white stitching completes the drivers comfort package.
